Skunk Sprayed Cat
Imagine you are just about ready to go to bed for the night when you call in your cat from outside. Suddenly, an out of control animal that looks like your cat comes running past you. The smell is horrific. Then, the realization hits you, "I am about to have to deal with a crazy, skunk sprayed cat!?" And then, the chase is on. A chase you don't want to really win (who wants to catch a smelly cat?).
A cat that has been sprayed by a skunk is likely to be very hard to handle. Chances are he will not sit still and let you care for him. Be sure to keep children and all other household pets out of the area.
If your cat has been sprayed in the eyes or face, contact your veterinarian or the emergency pet hospital immediately. This can be very dangerous.
If at all possible, keep your cat outside. As with any skunk sprayed cat, he or she will want to get the smell off and will try to rub on anything he can find including furniture, children, and more. Skunk smell will stick to everything your cat rubs on.
If you have a crate, now is the time to use it. This will keep the smell in one location and help to maintain some control of your cat.
Once you have the cat under control, gather all of the supplies you will need. Make sure you have more of everything than you think you will need. You will find it very hard to gather more supplies once you have started working on your cat.
